...or Just go for a Drive in your car
Take in the beautiful scenery of old homesteads and hay barns. Drive Northeast from the Durango RV Park to Vallecito Lake. Drive to Bayfield either by way of Ignacio or Highway 160. Turn North at County Road 501 and continue all the way until you get to Vallecito Lake. Remember the sharp turn you made halfway between Bayfield and Vallecito? On your return, you could turn right or northwest there - you'll be turning onto County Road 240 and you'll end up in Durango on 3rd Avenue. Non stop, this drive takes about 2 hours from Durango RV Park.
Enjoy a view of the Lake from the indoors or enjoy patio dining at the Pura Vida Cafe. As well, the Schank House Bar and Grill and Virginia's Steakhouse are both good bets for Lunch or Dinner.
For a long, all day drive, do the Big Loop:
This drive is especially popular during the Fall Colors season. From
Durango, go to Silverton, then Ouray, Telluride, Dolores, Mancos and back to Durango or
vice versa. This is particularly spectacular when the colors
are turning in the Fall. On the Southwest side of this Loop, you can shorten the loop by going from Mancos to Dolores rather than going all the way to Cortez. What is especially enjoyable is to split the drive into two days, staying a night in Ouray (taking in the Hot Springs) or Ridgway.
